Go Sitges
Guide to Sitges, Barcelona, Spain.
JANUARY 2009
Intro to Sitges
There is nowhere else anything like Sitges. Sitges is an amazing place, a paradise for many, a place where everyone is made welcome, whatever their age, race, sexual orientation or what have you. Families love it, nudists love it, gay folk love it, everyone loves it because everyone gets along with everyone else, and Sitges has something for everyone. It is a beautiful seaside town that has been a major tourist resort since the 1800's when the affluent Barcelonians built their beautiful weekend get-away homes here, of which over 100 still stand. It's called the 'Jewel of the Mediterranean', and rightfully so. It has some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, is one of the most beautiful towns with it's many narrow, very typically Spanish streets and a nightlife that compares with a town 10 times it's size, but probably the most remarkable thing about Sitges is that everything is cramed into an area that takes a mere 10 minutes to walk from one end to the other. Everything you want is on your doorstep. From your hotel to the 400+ shops, to the 11 beaches, to the countless bars, cafés and restaurants, to the discos - it's all within a few minutes walk! Add to that the sheer beauty of the place and it's easy to understand why everyone who comes once, comes back again and again and again. But as if all that wasn't enough, you have Barcelona an easy and amazingly cheap 35 minute train ride away. A city with architecture that is out of this world and a nightlife (and daylife) that is world class.

You can't talk about Sitges without mentioning it's vibrant gay scene, something the local council omits to mention in any of their tourist information, yet it's a major part of Sitges and adds to it's unique, liberal ambience, bringing in many interesting and flamboyant people. We have however omitted all gay locations from GoSitges.com and listed them in a seperate guide which you'll see the link to.

Note. We moved to Benidorm last August, but are moving back to Sitges on February 1st. (2009). This time to stay for good, so you can expect a big update to this guide and lots more info from February onwards.

We're here to help you. Please don't hesitate to write.
